On the way to Christchurch

On Friday at 15:00 we were on our way. Our first stop was south of Lake Taupo in Taurangi, about 200 km from Matamata. On Saturday we went to the southern part of the North Island, the capital Wellington. There was pretty much the wind and the rain especially at night more, as would probably be by ferry? A week before, took the trip because of a storm instead of the usual three hours only 9 hours!

On Sunday the weather was somewhat better, but still I was (Wolfgang) as inveterate landlubber something bad. Despite rain and wind I found it so comfortable on deck. If the ferry approaching the South Island, travels it about 1 hour through the so-called Queen Charlotte Sound, a widely drawn and fairly rugged fjord, unfortunately, we saw little of it because of bad weather.

Promptly at 17:00 we arrived in Picton and made our way to our accommodation.

The next day we walked the winding road to Christchurch (340 km) down. To the curves and bumps even a strong wind came about by our car shook pretty. Unfortunately, the stomach of our Hanna was pretty shaken, so much so that he is even in the car empty.

pretty exhausted (and annoyed), we finally arrived at our campsite at around 16:30 in Christchurch, where we met our other team members.

The accommodation was first of all a disappointment, we had actually presented two rooms here, there was only a dark, large room with kitchenette and small by about 2 m high, open top wall bounded bedrooms and a Bad. Here we should therefore take two months. Well, why should we have towards our friends from other operations team an advantage, because they're flown to the Philippines and there are not a luxury. The next day saw the world not so bad, But like the next time.

The Desert Road immediately after Turangi. In the background Ruhapeho.

The Queen Charlotte Sound on the passage, unfortunately rained out.

The first Southern Alps near Kaikoura.
