Catholic bishops called for civil disobedience

Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines urged population to civil disobedience in the event of contradicting the teachings of the Catholic Church law on reproductive health, reports RIA Novosti news agency referring to the Vatican Radio.
The bill, which authorizes the use of abortifacients and does not include the right of doctors to refuse the product of abortion, will be submitted to the Chamber of Deputies for final approval in February.
President of the Episcopal Conference of the Philippines Bishop Nereus Odkimar in a special pastoral letter said that Catholics may choose any form of protest that they conscience dictates, up to civil disobedience. The Catholic bishops of the Philippines, for its part, will protest against the bill, which they called "immoral" up to the arrest and imprisonment, said Bishop Arthur Bastes.
According to the bishops, to protest against the bill in favor of abortion, they do not call to overthrow the government.
According to the agency Asianews, some international organizations including the UN, the government promised to allocate more than 900 million dollars if the bill passes.
